The modern whirlpool baths were first created by the Jacuzzi brothers in the 1950’s for family members with arthritis problems. Technically it was only a pump that could be placed in an existing bath.

It wasn’t until the 1960’s that the first whirlpool baths were created. Although the hydrotherapy devises were a popular addition in the homes of the financial and Hollywood elite, it was still too pricey for most households. The whirlpool baths were also sold mainly in drugstores and not as a typical bathroom feature.

The increase in interest and the addition of more manufacturers to the market have fueled new designs and materials that have lowered costs for many of the whirlpools offered today. Instead of a luxury item, the whirlpool is becoming a common bathroom upgrade.
